LampWick Christian Curriculum Donates to Bibles for Quality Kids "When Mary and I formed LampWick, it was important to both of us that our company would keep it's focus on doing God's work," said Brenda Hicks, co-founder of LampWick Christian Curriculum. In fact, they felt so strongly about it that they built a provision into their Operating Agreement that governs the stewardship of their sales income. After searching through several worthy charities, they came upon the website for Samaritan's Purse, an organization founded by Franklin Graham in 1970. According to the organization's website, the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) is where the organization feels that it receives it's commission from God. "After describing how the Samaritan rescued a hurting man whom others had passed by, Jesus told His hearers, 'Go and do likewise.'" And they have. For over 35 years, Samaritan's Purse has contributed to relief efforts and community development efforts around the world. Most famous for Operation Christmas Child, they also have contributed to relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the recent Tsunami as well as efforts designed to help transform villages and neighborhoods around the world by helping families become self-supporting and helping children break the cycle of ignorance and poverty. Bibles for Quality Kids is one such project. This project, which focuses on communities in rural Appalachia, teaches Bible-based principles in public schools. Through the program, students learn about the Golden Rule through the use of puppets, skits and music. In the spring, the students and their families attend "celebrations" which are held at community churches. At these celebrations, the children receive Bibles and hear the Good News of God's love. LampWick's donation has provided for 22 easy-to-read Bibles for this program. "We mostly liked how this program fit with LampWick's mission of spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ by making it more accessible," said Brenda Hicks.
